Maths IGCSE

Description: This is the second year of a two year class teaching the Edexcel International GCSE in Mathematics (Specification A) in an interactive way. The first year covered material for the Foundation Tier and this year will cover the material for the Higher Tier. English Literature IGCSE

Description: This is a one-year class studying the Edexcel IGCSE syllabus, using the following texts: An Inspector Calls by JB Priestley, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee and Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. For those planning on sitting the exam only, as we are well into the course and approaching exam season.

Book Club for 11-14s

Description: This term we are continuing to explore "Heart of a Samurai", an historical novel by American author Margi Preus. The book is closely based on the the true, and fascinating story of a Japanese boy, Manjiro Nakahama (1827-1898), and illustrated by his own drawings.

The sessions will include plenty of discussion, a good bit of history and geography, some literacy games and writing (very much tailored to ability levels and enthusiasm!) and food! (related to the book, of course!)

Book Club for 8-11s

Description:  Continuing this term with "My Side of the Mountain" about a boy called Sam who escapes the bright lights and stimulation of a city to test out his wilderness survival skills deep in the catskill mountains. His family don’t believe he will endure the challenges and hardship for more than a day. The book offers genuine survival skills and natural world education. This book links us closely to our Eco-Warrior experience and brings together our love of Nature and Literacy!

For anyone new this term, the best place to get a copy of this book is from an online bookseller such as AbeBooks or the Book Depository, as Amazon doesn't have it new or for a very reasonable price secondhand. Line Dancing

Description:  Continuing this fun session where we will learn different dance routines and prepare for a performance at our end of term Talent Show.

Psychology

Description:  As this has been a popular class, we will be continuing with our guest class leader Bethan with her introduction to psychology. The sessions will be fun and involve conducting experiments to illustrate and explore the topics being discussed.

Art Class

Description:  In this class we are going to continue working on a variety of lino printing projects . We will be using lino print techniques and working on a collaborative project with a view to showing our art at an exhibition at the end of term (30th March).

Mythology

Description:  This course will start with an overview of the different characters and creatures across different mythologies including Greek, Roman, Norse, etc. We will start with those represented in the constellations to follow on from the Astronomy course, then take feedback from the group to follow their interests from there. We will also have the opportunity to create our own mythological creature, creating a back story and image.

Baked Potatoes

Description:  Hot lunch! One baked potato plus any toppings, including tuna mayo, cheese, baked beans and soured cream, with salad and veg sticks. Price is per person for the term.

Event Day - Art Exhibition and Talent Show

Description:  This day will be our end of term celebration, with an exhibition of the Art class kids' work, art activities to enjoy and a Talent Show in which all are invited to take part. More information about the day and how to buy tickets will be available at Pinewood in the next couple of weeks.

Event Day - Science

Description:  This is our second event day, starting the summer term off with a bang with an exploration of the science of dry ice! There will be lots of fun, hands-on activities for all ages.
